A novel explanation for the reversal of sign of secondary Bjerknes force acting between two pulsating gas bubbles

چکیده
It is known that in a certain case, the secondary Bjerknes force, which is a radiation force acting between pulsating bubbles, changes (e.g., from attraction to repulsion) as the bubbles approach each other. In this Letter, a theoretical discussion of this phenomenon for two spherical bubbles is described. The present theory, based on analysis of the transition frequencies of interacting bubbles [M. Ida, Phys. Lett. A 297, (2002) 210], gives an interpretation, which differs from previous ones (e.g., by Doinikov and Zavtrak [Phys. Fluids 7, (1995) 1923]), of the phenomenon. It is shown for example that the reversal that occurs when one bubble is smaller than and another is larger than a resonance size is due to the second-highest transition frequency of the smaller bubble, which cannot be given by the traditional naturalfrequency analysis.

Investigation of transition frequencies of two acoustically coupled bubbles using a direct numerical simulation technique
The theoretical results regarding the “transition frequencies” of two acoustically interacting bubbles have been verified numerically. The theory provided by Ida [Phys. Lett. A 297 (2002) 210] predicted the existence of three transition frequencies per bubble, each of which has the phase difference of π/2 between a bubble’s pulsation and the external sound field, while previous theories predict...
متن کاملCollective bubble dynamics near a surface in a weak acoustic standing wave field.
The transport of bubbles to a neighboring surface is very important in surface chemistry, bioengineering, and ultrasonic cleaning, etc. This paper proposes a multi-bubble transport method by using an acoustic standing wave field and establishes a model that explains the multi-bubble translation by expressing the balance between Bjerknes forces and hydrodynamic forces on a bubble in a liquid med...
متن کاملEffect of ultrasound on adherent microbubble contrast agents.
An investigation into the effect of clinical ultrasound exposure on adherent microbubbles is described. A flow phantom was constructed in which targeted microbubbles were attached using biotin-streptavidin linkages. Microbubbles were insonated by broadband imaging pulses (centred at 2.25 MHz) over a range of pressures (peak negative pressure (PNP) = 60-375 kPa). Individual adherent bubbles were...
متن کاملSimulation of bubble motion in acoustic cavitation
The many particle problem of moving cavitation bubbles in a liquid exposed to ultrasound need certain ingredients: Besides N bubbles and their positions ~xi and velocities ~ui, one has to specify the bubble sizes and shapes. Mechanisms for nucleation and annihilation or coalescence of bubbles have to be introduced, and a sound field distribution has to be given. Additionally, a liquid motion ca...
متن کاملAnalytical expressions for primary Bjerknes force on inertial cavitation bubbles.
The primary Bjerknes force is responsible for the quick translational motion of radially oscillating bubbles in a sound field. The problem is classical in the case of small-amplitude oscillations, for which an analytical expression of the force can be easily obtained, and predicts attraction of sub-resonant bubbles by pressure antinodes. But for high-amplitude sound fields the bubbles undergo l...
